Who is inquisitive can find numerous museums nearby.

One of the sights of Vonyarcvashegy is the “Szent Mihály” hill, on top of which you can have a beautiful view onto the lake. The hill can be reached by car, by bike or on foot.

The nearest city is Keszthely, where not only the Castle of count Festetics and it’s park can be admired, but you can visit numerous museums as well:

• In the Museum of Marzipan more than 100 gala-works are exhibited.
• The Museum of dolls is the largest one in Central-Europe. There are about 450 dolls on the exhibition.
• Wine and Cooper Museum can be found in the “Hungaricum” wine house.
• Museum of Balaton (Balatoni múzeum)
• Georgikon Farm Museum (Georgikon Majormúzeum)

From Keszthely you can boat to Badacsony which is well known about its wines. The poet of Balaton Sándor Kisfaludy‘s house can be reached on foot or by a land rover.

You can visit the Africa Museum in the neighbouring villageBalatongyörök , where even camels can be seen.

A nice bike tour can be ended at the Castle of Szigliget. You can enjoy the beautiful view of the lake from the bastions.

The 100 years old Nostalgia-train, which runs in the North bank of the lake, is the oldest nostalgia-train of Hungary, running in it’s original state. One of the stations on the line is Tapolca where you can boat inside the Tavasbarlang (The cave with a lake)

Sümeg, where you can see the bigest and  the best repair castle of West-Hungary seems to be an interesting destination. Visitors can see joust occasionally.

The spa at Hévíz and the thermal bath at Zalakaros welcome those who are wishing having a bath or recovery in whole year. The new medical bath at Kehidakustány with six thermal water pools is waiting for both adults and children.
